Meet James Chapman

Violent Felon for State Representative

Violent Felon. Republican Disruptor. Candidate for State Representative.

James Chapman (pictured above hanging a naked Barbie doll from a fishing rod) wants to be the Republican nominee for State Representative for the district that includes Ypsilanti Township, and parts of Pittsfield and Superior township (District 32).

If you are a Republican voter, we implore to vote in the August 6 primary AGAINST James Chapman. Consider, for example, voting for Martin Church, who completed a candidate survey indicating strong support for conservative values.

“The protester whose display of a doll with a noose around its neck prompted an altercation at the Michigan Capitol Thursday is a candidate for state representative with a criminal record. […] He told a reporter with Sinclair Broadcast Group the doll was meant to identify Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.”

When this story was published four years ago, Chapman was running for State Representative in the Canton area. Now, he's running again, this time hoping to embarrass Republicans in Ypsilanti.

A History of Violence

James Chapman has a history of criminal violence indicating he is a psychopath. Per Mlive:

Chapman has had several run-ins with the criminal justice system over the last few decades, according to law enforcement records and local news reports reviewed by MLive. In 1990, Chapman was found guilty of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and a firearms charge and was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. He was also put on probation for a stalking charge in 2015.

Chapman was sentenced to six months in jail in 2018 after being found guilty of resisting a police officer, according to The Belleville-Area Independent. A Michigan Court of Appeals opinion summarized the incident, noting Chapman argued with and attempted to stab an acquaintance at a house in Van Buren Township, and eventually dove into Belleville Lake in an attempt to evade police.

Chapman has also run unsuccessfully for several local and state political offices, Otzman said.

If this isn't psychotic behavior, what is?!

A Disgrace to Republicans

In another violent outburst, last year James Chapman assaulted an activist at a Republican gathering:

James Chapman, a Republican from Wayne County, told the paper he traveled to the city of Clare to join the party meeting at the Doherty Hotel. But the meeting was reserved for members of the state committee. So Chapman said that he and others gathered outside the meeting location and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. He also said that he attempted to open a door to the meeting room by jiggling the doorknob.

Mark DeYoung, who chairs the Clare County Republican Party, said he heard Chapman’s attempt to enter the room and opened the door after seeing someone flip him the bird through a window. “He kicked me in my balls as soon as I opened the door,” DeYoung said of Chapman, speaking to The Detroit News by phone from the emergency room.

DeYoung added that Chapman charged him, slamming his body into a chair, and said he now has a broken rib. He intends to press charges.

Martin Church: A Principled Conservative Alternative

Fortunately, Ypsilanti voters don't have to allow James Chapman to be their Republican candidate on the ballot this November.

Martin Church has gone on record as a strong conservative candidate who will:

• Restore Michigan's Right to Work law
• Protect free speech on the Internet
• Defend and restore the 2nd Amendment rights of Michiganders
• Defend health freedom and civil liberties
• Restore integrity to Michigan elections
• Protect parental rights and education freedom
• Protect girls' sports and children's health

Vote for Martin Church in the August 6 Republican Primary election!
